Burden of 80 Proof

Its now, or we stay sober all night.

Its a small, but pretty funny mod about an office clerk who leaves the office in the middle of the working day to borrow money and buy booze for an upcoming party. Apart from using Deus Ex as a basis, it has nothing to do with the game.

Mod puts you in more grounded and less gritty environments, such as a shopping mall, apartment block, etc. Each character is fully voiced, and the mod has two endings depending on the outcome of the final mission. It plays like a “point-and-click adventure game, but in first person,” where you do errands and talk to people to borrow money from them. The music for the mod seems to be taken from MOD music disks and other games.

I personally liked the atmosphere and humor of the mod. The story is very simple (such mods don't need complex plots anyway), the missions are pretty easy, and the music doesn't sound out of place. Voice acting is nicely done and more or less realistic. The game is very short, but that's fine for a mod where your goal is to borrow money to buy booze and food.

Transcended

Many that live in darkness that must be shown the way. For it is the dawning of a new day.

As mentioned in “Before You Play”, this is one of those mods that is worth downloading if you want to try or replay Deus Ex. It fixes a lot of bugs and adds a lot of more or less faithful quality-of-life features. The list of changes is quite extensive, and I won't list them all, but I'll just say that you can have more than one PS20s and LAWs, pepper spray is now as effective as a flamethrower, and NPCs don't ignore unconscious bodies, even though they had unused voice lines in the game files previously.

Greasel of the Year

Same old Deus Ex, except Majestic 12 decided to give an awareness to a greasel, instead of cloning Paul :D

This is a simple mod that somewhat changes the way you play Deus Ex. You are small and very limited in things you can do. You cannot interact with objects other than small boxes, candy bars, and soy food (although you can still interact with computers and spend your skill points on Computers skill).

Your inventory has two “weapons”: spit and bite. Spit is very simple: you spit a projectile that causes non-lethal damage. Bite causes lethal damage in close range and cannot be performed while standing still, so you have to move in order to bite. You can't carry any more items

Since you can't interact with objects, you can no longer pick up nano keys, and previously locked doors will be open from the get go. Some doors can now be chewed through with your bites. In some cases, you'll have to use an alternative route that you probably never even thought of taking before. You can no longer heal yourself with medkits and medical robots; the only ways to heal yourself are to eat corpses/unconscious bodies, soy food, and candy bars (if you value your mouse, bind the "Use" action to your mouse wheel.

I had a lot of fun playing Deus Ex as a green greasy greasel, causing havoc and eating people I didn't like (or doing the exact opposite of what I was told to do, because you'd have to be really stupid to send a greasel on a special agent missions). I chose New Dark Age ending for this playthrough because in my headcanon, Silhouette is dead, as is Chad, and the survivors were eaten alive, Dowd died of Grey Death, MJ12 Commandos killed Nicolette, and the only self-conscious greasel became the leader of the greasel resistance against pesky humans :D

On a side note: while its not really neccessary, you can install a Transcended version of the mod.

Unreal Revolution

Those elements mixed together is definitely like a sauce.

Its a very short mod that pokes fun at Deus Ex: Human Revolution. It loosely recreates the first real mission of DXHR, adds a yellow filter, button press takedowns, aim down sights, references to metaphors from Greek mythology and to GameStop-exclusive Tracer Tong rescue mission” (this was a thing before Director's Cut was released).

Sometimes the criticism in the mod is valid (stupid DLC and cover system), sometimes not (there are no lockpicks in DXHR, but there are keypads (and “multitools” which were also previously exclusive to GameStop-exclusive DLC), and sometimes it's overly exaggerated (in the mod, Alex Jacobson praises you for minor actions. In DXHR, Pritchard acts like a sarcastic prick). The mod isn't too serious, as it contains some funny moments, such as Pigeon Page or Jonathan Jacques-Belletête, who's out of touch with JC and talks about DXHR.

Lay D Denton Project

If God did not exist, it would be necessary to invent him her.

This mod brings back a feature that Ion Storm had in mind for Deus Ex back at the time, but were unable to add due to lack time constraints: a female protagonist.

Lay D Denton Project completely revoices every JC line (including cut lines) to a female voice, replaces the player model, and edits NPC voice lines to use appropriate pronouns.

In addition, a bunch of new fully voiced NPCs have been added for better immersion, which is a nice addition. It was pretty fun to interact with them. My favorite NPC is probably the bar patron in Hell's Kitchen's bar. The mod is compatible with Vanilla? Madder, Randomizer and was intergrated into mods like Revision and Give Me Deus Ex: Augmented Edition.
