If, after reading all of this, you suddenly decide to try Deus Ex, there are a few things you should consider (unless you have a PS2 or PS5 and not a PC).
Launcher
Since this is a PC game released in 2000, it does not officially support widescreen displays and may run too fast due if the frame rate is very high. This can be fixed using the Hanfling's or Kentie's launcher. The latter is the most common choice.
Renderer
Because Deus Ex is an Unreal Engine 1 game, which hasn't received many updates (unlike Unreal Tournament), it may not display correctly because the renders are designed for older hardware (personally, I didn't have any particular problems with the default Direct3D render, but I've heard many people complain about lag in the game). There are whopping 6 options that fixes this:
There is also an experimental Vulkan renderer, but it's very raw and should not be used unless you plan to maintain it.
Quality-of-Life
Deus Ex is janky game with many minor bugs, exploits and some inconsistencies remaining unpatched. Sure, you can just play the game as it is, but some mods can be useful, especially if you are playing the game for the first time.
There are mods such as Shifter, Biomod, Revision or Give Me Deus Ex that attempt to make the game less janky, but they are not as faithful to the original, so they should be considered for your next playthroughs.
So insteaf, you should instead use mods such as Transcended or Zero Rando version of Randomizer to get bug fixes and QoL features while remaining more or less the same game that everyone else has played. Some people have recommended Vanilla Bean, but it doesn't offer as many features as Transcended and Randomizer, so it should be avoided.
Optional
If you want to play as the female JC Denton, you can use the Lay D Denton mod, disable new NPCs and bring back old conversations in the character creation menu. Aside from replacing the playermodel and voice lines (as well as adding a few NPCs for more immersion), the mod does nothing else.
